Dan Ross, Pharm.D.

Dan Ross owns a consulting company, D Ross Consulting, which he started in 2007. He is a medication safety and pharmacy regulatory compliance expert, but he and his team also provide help with pharmacy operations, pharmacy billing and implementation of new clinical services. He has personally performed medication safety assessments in over 60 hospitals, helped more than 40 hospitals in preparing for CMS validation surveys and/or MERP surveys and assisted 8 hospitals with CMS Systems Improvement Agreements (SIA). He has worked as an independent consultant for both the Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and Greeley Consulting.

From mid 2011 to fall of 2012 he took a break from consulting and accepted a real job as the Vice-President of Ancillary Services, Chief Pharmacy Officer at City of Hope. Departmental responsibilities included pharmacy, Diagnostic Radiology, Radiation Oncology, Transfusion Medicine, Respiratory, Clinical Nutrition and Pathology. He was responsible for over 575 FTEs and annual budgets of approximately $170 million. He returned to consulting when his role was eliminated through organizational restructuring.

Prior to starting his consulting firm, Dr. Ross was the Director of Pharmacy and Medication Safety at Catholic Healthcare West (now Dignity Health) where he was responsible for developing and implementing system-wide initiatives to improve quality and safety related to medication use.

Dr. Ross is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pharmacy Practice at Western University in Pomona and is on the editorial advisory board of the ISMP Medication Safety Alert! Newsletter. He is also a member of the California Hospital Association Medication Safety Committee.


Amy Gutierrez, Pharm.D.

Dr. Amy Gutierrez is the Senior Vice President and Chief Pharmacy Officer for Kaiser Permanente National Pharmacy Programs and Services. In this role, she oversees pharmacy practice and policy across eight US national regions, including California, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon, Mid-Atlantic States, Colorado, and Georgia service regions. Pharmaceutical contracting, medication safety, pharmacy operations, managed care benefits and overall strategic planning are areas of responsibility. Prior to this position, she served as the Chief Pharmacy Officer for the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services, the second largest public health system in the US. 

Dr. Gutierrez obtained her Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Southern California, and completed a California Healthcare Leadership Fellowship in 2005. She is currently an assistant professor of clinical pharmacy at the University Of Southern California, as well as a member of the Dean's Board of Councilors. From 2012-2018 she served as a governor-appointed board member of the California Board of Pharmacy.
